The Raymond - The Story of Woolen Blanket to Refined Fabric

India, the land of unique is the birthplace of Raymond. In 1925, the Wadia Wollen Mills was set up in Thane, Bombay. It was set up specially to manufacture clothes for Indian Soldiers. Later this mill was taken over by ED Sassoon&Co, renaming it as Raymond Woolen Mills. Till now it produces coarse woolen blankets and low-cost wool fabrics. In 1940, JK Group entered the Raymond Woolen Mills [Founded by Juggilal Singhania(father) and Kamlapat Singhania(son)]. Mr. Kailashpat Singhania's grandson of Juggilal Singhania was looking around to invest in the Textile industry in Bombay. Thus in 1944, the JK Group acquired the Raymond Woolen Mills.
Mr. Kailashpat had greater ambitions. He invested in technology to produce new wool grades&colors, set up an R&D unit to conduct experiments on wool blends and fabrics.
As a result in 1958, Terool, a wool blended yarn was launched followed by Raymond entering the world of the Retail market by setting up its first showroom at JK Building, Bombay. In the next year, Trovine, a new lightweight fabric was launched. In 1969, Raymond Apparel was set up to market the readymade clothing. By now, the company has expanded its operations to Kenya and Mauritius. In 1980 under the multifaceted Vijaypat Singhania, more manufacturing facilities were added evolving it to a modern industrial unit and acquiring the world’s top three producers of worsted fabric.
More fabric blends and varieties were launched by Raymond’s R&D department in 1990. By 2003–2004, Raymond had become one of only 3 manufactures in the world to produce super 210 and super 220 grades of wool, Raymond also diversified into other business such as cement, industrial tool, automobile parts, steel, aviation, etc. The Raymond refocussed on the generations demanded of high-quality ring denim, under the leadership of Gautam Singhania.
Innovation is the backbone of Raymond. The team came up with new and fine blends such as the Renaissance Collection, the Chairman's Collection, Applause, etc. With more than 4500 designs and 20,000 patterns incorporating blends of various fabrics, the company has gone beyond expectations. Raymond Succeeded in capturing the hearts of all generations, through its advertising and marketing strategies. It projected the male more than a clothes horse, thus promoting itself as the perfect product for the man.
