Without Compassion, Resilient Leaders will fall short
Deep awareness of the suffering of another, coupled with the wish to relieve it is exactly what is meant by compassion. When it comes to the resilience of a leader, this mercy or ruth or pity whatever might it be, is necessary.
There will be many circumstances when a strong leader can amalgamate the strength of his/her team only through kindness or compassion. Real life situations can be easily dealt with the dimension of compassion with a blend of corporate responsibility and an ethical approach to it.
To give an instance, false claim of companies’ perks can never be pardoned even if the defaulter has some grievous personal problems. But claim of those benefits by entailing the same problems with prior, legal permissions can be approved by the project manager or in this case the leader. Both are cases of compassion- retainment of the leader, with an ethical approach to both the problems.
Field works by Government officials regarding raids, sealing of factories, closure of companies oppose the concept of compassion in them, but that doesn’t mean that the leader is not strong or resilient. Proper training to deal with such cases has to be promoted in each and every institution, be it private sector or public sector entities. Compassion is necessary in each and every leader to make his / her team work effectively and deliver goals within stipulated time frame .
Organisations being ready for permanent Work From Home
Work from home concept has been in news recently due to the ongoing pandemic CoViD-2019, when everyone excluding the essential workforce are compelled to maintain complete or periodic lockdown all over the world for the past 5 months.
Work from home concept isn’t applicable to all sectors of business, particularly the medico, agro, policing and administration, food distribution markets, energy sectors. Except these business sectors, almost all other entities or organizations can work from home on a regular or periodic basis.
IT sector companies specifically can utilize this opportunity to implement this WFH concept in toto. Companies like IBM had given this benefit to its employees long before this pandemic. Other companies are now following the same path as reports have laid down many benefits regarding WFH in IT sector. Employees, particularly women want WFH concept to be properly implemented so that it helps in maintaining a perfect work-life balance. Surveys have reported 80% of the employees want to work from home at least some of the time. Moreover, transition to remote working should also take into account of a hybrid model and not totally remote work as it will decline self-motivation, increase social inclination and exposure to cultural and environmental aspects will gradually decline.
Organizations should focus on work and not infrastructure any more. As long as the deadline is met, there shouldn’t be any compulsion for the employees in IT sector to be physically present in office regularly.
Looking at the cost effectiveness of industrial infrastructure, huge savings of electricity cost and water supply are the two major aspects that can be intervened. As reports suggest, 15,000 to 25,000 kWh per year by each business on an average in US can be saved.
It needs no mention that, work from home will lead to many disadvantages like lack of socializing, less desire to connect with colleagues unless compelled and will be restricted only to meeting and calls. But at the same time, researches have found when WFH is implemented, success rate of projects and business regulation as well as progress becomes high. This is a ready result when it comes to the advantages of WFH.
Following days, it is being heard that companies will permanently shift to WFH, but the implementation with proper internet connection, virtual network , proper infrastructure remains the responsibility of the company , whose employees are attached to it.
Abandoning Globalization will only hurt US Businesses
In this era where Globalization is the new future, US tends to ban globalization which needs no reference that it will only hurt their business at large. Only reason being the skilled labour or workforce they would lose by adoption of this protectionist policy.
According to US Bureau of Economic Analysis research reports, foreign-owned companies employed 6.8 million workers in US in 2015,up 22% from 2007 . Further reports say, as many as 155 Indian companies have invested $22 billion in US, thus creating nearly 125,000 jobs in the country.
Looking at the above data, it needs no mention how ban of H1B visa will impact US businesses. Skilled data analysts, grad schools and post grad schools students from all over the world will decline to a large extent. If US protectionism feels that jobs will be reserved for the US citizens only and thereby help in growth of business and economics per se, it will not be correct.
In this era of globalization, as mentioned earlier, business markets are not confined to one particular sector or country. Markets and jobs from various sectors and also from various parts of the world will be open to each and every skilled employee. Moreover, taking into account the rivalry between US and China, US and Russia, banning jobforce beyond US, will never be a success story for the Trump administration and US business per se.
This protectionist policy can lead to disputes between import- export business, loss in skilled workforce, intelligent youths’ interest declination as well downturn in global economy.
To conclude, dealing a sine qua non situation, this ‘paper tiger’ policy of US, inter alia is an issue of fuss and fret for the global market which will remain prevalent sine die.
