Recently National Human Rights Commission of India issued directions to Board of Control for Cricket in India to include partially sighted cricket player in Indian Premier League 2020 as a cricket player.
The partially sighted cricketer named Ratendra Singh Jayara is from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. He approached National Human Rights Commission of India in 2019 after his Writ Petition related to his inclusion in Indian Premier League was dismissed by The Supreme Court of India on 8th April 2019. "Having heard learned counsel for the petitioner (Ratendra Singh Jayara) and upon perusing the relevant material, we are not inclined to entertain the present writ petition. The same is accordingly dismissed," a bench of the top court, comprising Chief Justice of India Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Deepak Gupta said in its order and dismissed the petition.
Ratendra is a partially sighted cricket player and has participated in seven National Level Blind Cricket tournaments in India representing Uttar Pradesh state and India Red team as a B3 category player. The cricketer claims that he is a bowling cum batting allrounder . He can do fast bowling and come at no 7 position for batting. He can field in the fine leg position, third man position and few more. He can play cricket and do cricket commentary in Indian Premier League with minor accommodation.
The cricketer has also approached the United Nations Office of the Human Rights Commissioner for his inclusion in IPL 2020.
In December 2019 The National Human Rights Commission of India issued directions to Board of Control for Cricket in India to include him in Indian Premier League 2020 as a cricket player. But till date BCCI has not taken any action on the order of National Human Rights Commission of India. and is not providing the IPL selection confirmation letter to the cricketer.
Companies like Gray-Nicolls and Kookaburra Sports are willing to sponsor the partially sighted cricketer in IPL 2020 and are asking him to submit his IPL selection confirmation letter. Companies like Aurolab and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute USA are sponsoring the cricketer's eyes surgery before the start of IPL 2020, on grounds of his inclusion in IPL 2020.
