COVID 19: A TURN IN GLOBAL POLITICS
Date-14/05/2020
The most trending hashtag on twitter, the topic on everyone’s mind, is undoubtedly the Covid 19 pandemic. This is the first ever pandemic that has affected the lives of millions in the past one century. It has created a bewildering state across the globe. The outbreak of this pandemic has created a global havoc and has indeed changed our perception of the world forever. The coronavirus family gives rise to illness in the human system that includes common cold to severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
Also, on the political front, the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the political arrangements of various countries leading to postponement or complete detention of upcoming elections for various legislatures around the world. This has surely challenged the people’s right to voting and electing a favourable candidate. Many countries have declared an emergency in the nations considering the severity of the pandemic. Many countries have temporarily banned mass protest as a response to social distancing. This surely is an important decision for curtailing communal transmission but people find it a denial to their right of expression.
In the month of April India recorded the lowest rates in manufacturing of goods and services, among the world’s top 10 economies. This has created a 52% loss in the Indian market. Due to lockdowns announced throughout the countries facing the virus, has made people worried about the lower strata of people which sustain on daily wages. With industries producing only essential goods are permitted to function, a major part of labourers are left unemployed, until the situations are restored. A large number of migratory labourers are trying to return to their home town, but due to no railway service currently most of them have reverted to walking the distance to return back. This has surely created a sense of negligence from the government. This would surely change the people’s perspective towards the ruling state and central government. With an increasing death due to walking long distances and the extreme summer at its peak, has surrounded the government with numerous questions. The various government policies are seen to be failing due to the large population that our country has. This would surely result into a twist in the national politics after the pandemic is controlled. The government which could help the maximum number of pals in distress, would surely bloom in the upcoming elections.
On the international front, the world superpowers have not been able to beat this virus resulting into an uncontrollable outbreak nationwide. The conditions have deteriorated in countries with world class healthcare systems like Italy, America, Spain. Considering Italy which ranks second in the world for its excellent health care system has recorded 215,858 corona cases with 29,958 deaths already which means has a death rate of 24% which is the highest in Europe. America on the other side has 1,29,101 corona cases with deaths rising to almost 74% the highest in the world currently. Due to the ever-increasing cases the world leaders are in position to find effective methods to sustain life with adequate amount of supply of all the essential goods. The schemes of various countries in importing and sustaining important goods in warehouses is now been tested. Presidents and Prime Ministers are now tested for their policies. In India the current counts show a total of 50,000 corona cases in the country and Maharashtra with the highest number of cases in the country. The states have already sealed their boundaries and is only approving of trains carrying daily wage workers and essential goods.
World leaders like Donald trump have clearly mentioned in one of his interviews that America’s trade with China is now ‘extremely difficult’ highlighting the hard times that China might have to face once the virus is treated and lockdowns across the world is lifted. Although, America and the other allied might curtail its trade business with China, it is the truth that china is the only positively increasing economy in the world currently with a whooping GDP of 5,971.65 crores USD. This sparks a debate on whether the virus was a natural or a man made one as a strategy from china to obtain the world superpower, which only time can reveal. Also, countries across the world have asked India for the ‘corona drug’ hydroxychloroquine, which India has successfully delivered creating better bonds with the western countries. This would surely help India in the near future in investment opportunities and trade schemes. India is now looked upon as a new hub instead of china for business. This would surely create a strong union of India with the other western countries.
In times like this where staying at home is the best prevention, we can offer it is a humble request from everyone to make sure the well-being of everyone to take care of the warriors staying away from their families for helping us.
