Where Is Bihu Celebrated And When Is Lohi Festival Celebrated
The Bihu festival is celebrated in Assam thrice every year. It shows the change in season and comes with greater joy . In this festival people enjoy regardless of all barrier and come with enjoying every moment. The Assamese celebrate 3 time every year, Bohag Bihu which is celebrated in mid- April, then the Magh Bihu celebrated in mid-January and finally the Kati Bihuis which is celebrated in mid-October. The three of these depicts changes of three seasons, and they are spring,winter and autumn.
In Punjab, the breadbasket of India, wheat is the main winter crop. It is sown in October and harvested in March or April. In January, the fields come up with the promise of a golden harvest, and farmers celebrate this rest period before the cutting and gathering of crops, with a joyous festival called Lohri, which is the Bonfire Festival. In the morning, on Lohri day, children go from door to door singing songs and being rewarded with money and sweets. In the evening, with the setting of the sun, huge bonfires are lit and people gather around the rising flames. They circle the bonfire and throw in puffed rice and sing popular songs. After offerings are made to the bonfire, it is time for the lively and vigorous Bhangra dance, which is performed by the menfolk.
