A man climbed one of the 100 feet high pillars on the new Yamuna bridge in order to apparently pray to the moon god! The man, who has now been taken into police custody, sent a note from the top that he wanted the Vikram lander to re-establish contact with the Chandrayan – India’s lunar mission to the south pole of the Moon. He further stated that he won’t get down until and unless the Vikram lander establishes contact, and that he will pray for its success. Despite the citizens and police authorities urging him to get down, the man didn’t listen to anyone. It was only when a team of police officials who climbed the pillar with the help of a crane that the man was finally brought down safely from the pillar.
The Uttar Pradesh Police have busted fake recruitment that was going on in the name of hiring teachers for the state-aided schools under the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Service Selection Board (UPSESSSB). The culprits created a fake website that looked eerily similar to the official website of UPSESSB and then lured gullible candidates into submitting a fee for the said recruitment. Those who paid the fee were even issued fake joining letters by the website. The entire episode came into limelight only when the candidates who were apparently ‘recruited’ were not allowed to join their posts at the schools for which they were hired. According to SP City Shri Brijesh Srivastava, the police have registered a case now and the investigation is in force now.
In a sad state of affairs, a young soft tennis player from the city, Muskan, is unable to participate in the soft tennis championship that is scheduled to be held later this year in China. The sportswoman, who is a first-year B.Sc. student of the University of Allahabad, hails from a humble background and has won numerous domestic and international tournaments, thanks to her mother who funded the trips by selling her jewelry and ornaments. However, since the family is not left with any more sources, Muskan’s participation in this year’s Chinese soft tennis championship clearly hangs in balance as no one is ready to support her trip – not even the district administration. The only possible ray of hope is from the elected leaders of the student union, who are running a campaign to collect funds for this young sportswoman’s trip.
The interview stage for the PCS 2017 began on Monday and will continue till the 30th of September, with a specific number of candidates being called each day for their interviews. Now, normally the interview stage for this Provincial Civil Services exam includes questions ranging from history, geography, current affairs, and arts and culture to name a few. And this was the case for the most part of the first day, with questions being asked from candidates’ optional subjects, historical events, and international relations.
However, in a bizarre turn of events, candidates were even asked questions such as “how many cases are registered against ex-minister Azam Khan?” and “What cases are lodged against him”? While some candidates found this entire incident amusing, others were clearly not happy with such questions being asked in an interview for the state’s top bureaucratic jobs.
Ganga, Yamuna water levels continue to rise above the danger mark, but with a decreased rate
After the release of water from the rivers in Rajasthan, the Ganga-Yamuna danger mark breached at several places in the holy city of Allahabad. The city, which is facing tough situations due to floods over the last few days, hasn’t seen any respite from the rivers yet. And despite the rate of increase slowing down over the last 48 hours, many houses along the coast were submerged, forcing people to leave their homes with essential items. The flood management unit of the Irrigation Department has, however, predicted that the watermark will stabilize within the next 48 hours. The Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Keshav Prasad Maurya, along with the District Magistrate took an aerial survey of the flood-affected region and urged the authorities to speed up the relief work.
