Kolkata: Governor Jagdeep Dhankar while returning to Kolkata after attending the convocation at Vishwa Bharti University in Shantiniketan, given surprise visit to the office of Singur Block Development Officer (BDO).
Governor Jagdeep Dhankar went straight to the chamber of BDO Partha Bandyopadhyay, the officials were shocked to see the Governor, as the BDO and joint BDO as both were on leave.
Governor Jagdeep Dhankar said, "I could have been perhaps a little more informed about Singur. I will have a planned visit next time and try to know more about it".
Senior TMC leader Sovandeb Chattopadhyay Said, It is not becoming of a Governor to make visits to block offices. I think he is having difficulties understanding his roles and duties ".
TMC chief Mamta Banerjee ten years ago had led an agitation against land acquisition at Singur that catapulted her to power in 2011.
Kolkata: In Bankura district, a man was held for stabbing an elderly woman to death and later killing an employee of the forest department for protesting her murder on Monday, police said. The lady and the man were identified as Lichu Roy(64) and Ajit Choudhary (56).
As per the primary investigation, Arup an accused was publicly abusing the lady and Ajit , who was having tea at Mogra More, protested it.
The accused Arup followed Lichu Roy and stabbed her from the back till died. Seeing this, Ajit started chasing the accused and kept screaming. Arup also stabbed Ajit, before the arrival of people to help them. The hospital declared them brought dead, Said, police officer.
Police said , Arup seems to be suffering from some psychological problem, which is being verified.police officer added, the actual reason for death will be clear after the complete investigation.
Kolkata: In the Bankura district of West Bengal, two people died as heavy rain continued to hit the state since Thursday, the official said on Friday.
As per the Metrological department, due to the low-pressure area in South Odisha and West Central Bay of Bengal, there will be more rainfall in the state.
The weatherman said, there will be a downpour at one or two places over districts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and in Howrah.

Kolkata: 160 people tested for positive dengue fever in North Kolkata's Dum Dum area. People of the area are in a panic state due to the recent rise in mosquito-borne diseases.
As per the report, dengue cases are reported in the last three months from Pramod Nagar, Kali Nagar, Dakhindari, Natunpara, Dum Dum Cantonment.
A 59 yr old lady of Subhash Nagar died on Dussehra due to high fever for several days, She was having dengue fever.
Pradip Majumder, Councillor of ward 3 of one of the affected colonies said, due to unhygienic practice by a resident in the parts of Dum Dum, the cases of dengue fever as increased. Pradip Majumder further pointed out that some of the people living in the area are not cleaning the stagnant water regularly which then becomes the breeding ground for mosquitoes. The habit of keeping toilet outlet unclean is another cause of dengue fever in the locality. Pradip Majumder said that they are organizing camps in the part of the area to monitor the situation on a day to day basis.

Kolkata: For alleged involvement in defrauding thousands of people in the United Kingdom (UK), the cybercrime unit of the Kolkata Police in the last week shut down two call centers in Kolkata.
Seven people aged between 29 and 43 years were held in the raids, which involved 50 city police. These raids and arrest mark the successful culmination of a four-year operation. working with Indian authorities and Microsoft, we have stopped a number of criminal call centers from preying on UK citizens, said Commander Karen Baxter of the city of London Police.
As per Kolkata police, this is just the tip of the iceberg, information suggests that at least 12 such high tech fraud call centers are operating from Kolkata and salt Lake, a senior official of the city's cybercrime unit.
A cybercrime expert said," These are global scams with each such call center income of least Rs 4 lakhs every day. The scam can run into a few hundred crore rupees yearly".

JEE exam so far was only conducted in Hindi and English but now the central government decided to add Gujarati language but ignored other regional languages including Bengali.
She said that she respects and loves Gujarati language but other languages should get the same respect, Modi being from Gujarat may have approved this request but he should look at other states as well.
Mamata's nephew demanded JEE 2020 to be conducted in Bengali, Oriya, Kannada, Telegu, Tamil, and Marathi language.

A woman who was working in Kolkata police department died on Wednesday due to Dengue, She was working in Amherst Street Police station and had recently delivered a baby. She was the resident of Ashwini Nagar where several people were affected by Dengue.

The International science festival which was organized in Kolkata did not receive positive response from the state government. Due to this, the audience got a very poor experience.
Governor Jagdeep said that the festival was highly politicized by the state government and the 5th International science festival failed to impress the audience.
At the closing ceremony, the governor mentioned the state government and said “It is undesirable that science is viewed through a political spectrum. I regret that IISF was politicized by the government”.
The festival was organized with the help of the Department of science and biotechnology, Council of scientific and industrial research and Ministry of earth sciences. The festival was highly unorganized with no proper support. The festival had an estimated budget of Rs 25 crore but no support was given by the state government.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was invited for this event but she did not show her attendance.
