A Survey Of Foot-Over-Bridges Revealed Lack Of Regular Checks
A survey of foot-over-bridges at 13 stations along 32 kilometres between Thane and CSMT revealed lack of inspection deadlines and regular checks. With the majority of maintenance schedules showing April 2019 as the final inspection date, November 2019 as the next due date, situation points towards a lack of seriousness by the railways and raises passenger safety concerns. Earlier this year, IIT-B and Railways conducted a joint safety audit of all 445 road-over-bridges, FOBs on both the Central Railway and Western Railway lines to improve facilities and focus on commuter safety. Thereafter some bridges were demolished, and accountability boards were put on all FOBs along with the inspection schedule. All this was done after the CSMT bridge collapsed this year to gain public confidence and set accountability. The board mentions important parameters such as the condition of the bridges, the person-in-charge, the last inspection date and the due date for the next inspection. Out of the 19 stations between Thane and CSMT, a media agency visited the 13 busiest. It was found that at least eight FOB due dates at five stations had expired. While some stations have updated boards, some do not have boards. While the board of the CSMT mentions that the last inspection was done this month and the next is scheduled for December 2020 and certified as safe for public use, the inspection dates at the south-end bridge of the mosque station.

Story Of Bar Owners Troubled By Police In Mumbai
City bar owners dared to blow the lid off one of Mumbai's worst-kept secrets. Policemen bullying the bar to close the path before the deadline and made their patrons and managers uncomfortable with their presence inside the complex. The issue seems to be in disbelief that the top brass for local police stations. Taking a nap by the chief of police, it appears that there are galvanized local police, mainly in the western suburbs, to flex their muscles with massive restaurants and bars. More than 50 victim owners have come forward to protest against the highness of the police, who say they are posting constables on their premises, which sometimes force them to close shop by 9 pm. In a city where a majority allow their hair to be posted only at 10 am, the over-the-top measure has left moderation in view of the high losses in business. For a force that is short-staffed, this is an unnecessary wastage of manpower. For over a decade, it has been struggling to fill 3,000-odd vacancies. Nevertheless, it continues to deploy precious personnel for unnecessary jobs unnecessarily. The reason this time is that during the surprise inspection initiated by the Chief of Police, the deadline of 1.30 pm to the local police was not strictly enforced. Does the expiration of a deadline justify precious manpower wastage? When these infantrymen can be deployed for law and order, why should they waste their thumbs inside the bars for hours? Another reason given is the prevention of 'illegal activities,' in which no one is able to tell what these illegal activities can be. On the face of it, it seems that the police have returned to their favorite activity, moral policing. It cannot top the list of law enforcers. By all means, monitor the bars and restaurants if you must, but inconsistently. The strong-arm strategy will only be counterintuitive. It would be prudent for constables to enforce the law where needed, which is certainly not inside bars and restaurants.
Install Loudspeaker, LED Light And An Artificial Flame To Scare The Wild Animal
An office of SEEPZ has set up a sound and light show in the building complex in hopes of scaring a frequent four-legged visitor to the area. The leopard has been spotted five times in the past week in the office area located near the forested hill near Mahakali Caves in Andheri. Employees of the Power System Operation Corporation Limited (PSOCL), one of several offices in the area, have installed loudspeakers, LED lights, and an artificial flame to scare the animals. The leopard has been spotted in three office buildings around the Veravali pumping station in the last week. On December 9, CCTV footage of a camera installed in the building premises of WRPC caught the leopard attacking a stray dog in the building premises at 2.32 am, and the video went viral on social networking sites. The Forest Department immediately reached the spot and made the people aware of the dos and donuts. Camera traps were also deployed in the area, and night patrolling was started. A forest department official told that people in the buildings had been asked to illuminate areas where leopards were spotted. "The sound from the instruments can give the leopard the impression that humans are present on the campus and may frighten it," he said. PSOCL has installed four instruments playing the Gayatri mantra continuously to ward off the leopard. LED lights also been installed on the boundary walls of the complex, and panels have also been installed to prevent leopards from entering the building. An artificial flame lamp has also been installed on the machine in the building where the leopard was seen resting.
