Three minor girls among family of 5 found dead in Dahod apartment
Dahod, Gujarat, India: Five members of a family, including three minor daughters, allegedly died by suicide by consuming poison in their rented apartment in Dahod town on Friday, police said. Dahod town police, which is investigating the case, is yet to ascertain the exact cause but primary probe suggests financial troubles.
On Friday, police discovered the bodies of Saifi Dudhiyawala, a trader of disposable plastic wares, and his family in their rental apartment in Sujai Baug on Dahod-Godhra road of Dahod town after the neighbours alerted the police that the family had not been answering calls and doorbells.
A team of Dahod town police reached the spot and found the bodies of Dhudhiyawala and his wife, said to be in their late 40s, as well as three daughters — twins aged 16 and a seven-year-old — on the floor.
“The bodies of the three daughters and wife were found on a mattress in the room while the man’s body was found in the doorway of the kitchen. Forensic teams have taken samples of a bottle of liquid near the kitchen sink, which appears to be the toxic chemical used by the family,” an officer of the Dahod police said.
They said the forensic teams found traces of the chemical on the kitchen platform, next to a rack of washed utensils as well as tea cups on the edge of the sink. Police officials suspect that the couple poisoned the daughters before consuming the chemical.
The family had moved in to the apartment a few years ago from a village in the neighbouring Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh.
Relatives of the family said that Dhudhiyawala had suffered heavy financial losses in the past few months since the lockdown and had been seeking help from a few relatives to pay off his debts. They also said that Dhudhiyawala’s brother, Ali, also died by suicide a couple of years ago due to loans.
A family member said, “His brother committed suicide about two years ago after harassment from the loan recovery agents of a private lender, who refused to close his loan despite Ali having paid a major chunk of the amount with hefty interest. We are not sure if Ali’s lenders were now troubling Saifi or if he had also fallen into the trap of some lender.”
Dahod Superintendent of Police Hitesh Joysar told this newspaper, “We have learnt that primarily the family was in financial trouble. The man had a business of plastic disposables. We will speak to the family members to understand other possible reasons after the rituals.” Joysar confirmed that the family had died due to poisoning. “The bodies will be handed over to the relatives after autopsy. We are awaiting the postmortem reports to take the probe forward,” the SP added.
Covid patient raped by ambulance driver on way to hospital
Trivandrum, Kerala, India: A 19-year-old woman who tested positive for Covid-19 was raped allegedly by an ambulance driver while being taken to hospital late Saturday night in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district.
Police arrested the driver, Noufal, and said he has a case of attempted murder pending against him since 2019. Police also said he had not obtained the mandatory clearance certificate before joining as a driver with the state health department’s ambulance service, which is operated by GVK EMRI Emergency Management Services. Pathanamthitta.
Superintendent of Police K G Simon said the driver picked up the victim and another woman, a 40-year-old Covid patient, from Adoor. While the 19-year-old was to be admitted to a Covid First Time Treatment Centre at Pandalam, the other woman was to be taken to a Covid centre in Aranmula. Though Pandalam is en route to Aranmula from Adoor, the driver went directly to Aranmula, dropped the 40-year-old there, and then set off to Pandalam with the 19-year-old. On his way, the driver allegedly drove the ambulance to a deserted place and raped her, before taking her to the Covid centre.
Police said that before dropping her off, the driver apologised to her and told her not to speak about the incident. Police said the woman recorded the conversation and informed the hospital staff, leading to the driver’s arrest.
The SP said the condition of the woman is stable.
Health department officials said if there is more than one patient from a particular locality, they usually arrange for them to be picked up together and shifted to hospital.
“The driver’s chamber is partitioned and no other staff or nurse accompanies the driver while ferrying patients to hospital. This is to limit the exposure of health workers to infected persons. In rare cases, if the patient is serious, we send a nurse. In this case, both patients were stable,’’ said the official.
As the incident triggered outrage from political parties and civil society, Kerala Health Minister K K Shailaja said, “It is a shocking incident. The GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute, which operates the ambulance service, was asked to take action.’’
The Kerala Human Rights Commission and Kerala Women’s Commission have sought an action-taken report from the police. Women’s panel chairperson and CPI(M) leader M C Josephine said people with criminal record should not have been put on Covid duty. The incident, she said, shows that women patients require special protection while being taken to hospital.
The Opposition said the government should reveal why a person with criminal background was put on Covid duty.
In a statement, GVK EMRI said the driver has been removed from service and a police complaint filed against him. “The GPS of the ambulance has been handed over to police… So far, 108 ambulance services have completed 1.50 lakh trips as part of Covid operations. The accused driver, Noufal, had not obtained a police clearance certificate while joining duty. He had submitted a written undertaking that he would soon obtain a clearance certificate, based on which he was hired… All drivers have now been asked to submit clearance certificates against the backdrop of this incident,’’ it said.

The Women empowerment, a very common topic even it is the hit topic ever
One of the most important issues which has been prevailing in this world is the struggles faced by women and their empowerment.
This has been a hot topic even after many years. This is certainly because issues regarding this title are not solved yet, and when they aren't solved, that's when it becomes more interesting to spk about it. Rather than jumping to the empowerment of women, I would like to discuss her role in the world and the injustices being done to her. Woman is the real creator of the world. It is from her blood, that the world is created. All of us have come from the womb of a woman whom we call our Mother. She has given each one of us life, after sacrificing a 1000 wishes and by going through a lot of pain. Not only a mother is whom I am gonna speak about but in general THE WOMEN.
A woman is a mother, daughter, sister, wife who constantly and majorly spends her life trying to make her loved ones happy. But is she happy? That is the real question. She may seem to be but she isn't. Over the years, we have heard many cases where women are being treated miserably. During the revolution periods, her right to vote, her right to life, everything has been taken and it hasn't really changed so much till now. Many of the girl children are still being deprived of education. Some wish to pursue higher education, but who pays heed to her wish ? We all need to remember that we may be her parents, children, friend, husband and anyone but We are not HER ! ....its time we need to change our view upon her. Other than the deprivation of such political and human rights, many other incidents also occur like harassment, abuses, acid attacks etc. And if anything unfortunate happens to her, we need to nurture her and give her courage to stand up and face all those rather than despising her of it.
And it's really Amazing and proud to say that Women have come up in various fields after a lot of struggle in numerous issues. Therefore, I conclude by saying that we contribute in small ways, atleast by respecting our Mother, sister, friend, teachers. Not only respecting her, infact we need to respect her decisions and small wishes. Thank you!
