I know it’s little late to write a content on this Sathankulam murder due to police brutality. However, I’m creating this content to let you all know my general point of view on the police brutality.
We all were taught that, a ‘Police man’ is a person who is there to help and save people from crime/rough situations. Police people are also called as friend for public.
But now-a- days we come across lot of crime scenes which are made by police. This crime/ violation of civil rights by officers is called “POLICE BRUTALITY”.
The custodial death of the two men in Tamil Nadu’s Sathankulam town in Thoothukudi district has sparked massive outrage in the state over police brutality.
Questions are also being raised on the conduct of the sub-inspectors and all officials present at the police station during the incident.
As a ‘Citizen of India’ we all need to know and educate people around us that just sharing a news in social media and speaking about the issue would never work. Practically, we get a number of police brutality cases daily. It’s just that all the cases are not treated in the same way.
Before getting into my article, I’d want to put up an important disclaimer.
“I’m clearly not mentioning that all the police and govt. employees are wrong or blamable for this act of Sathankulam murder/ anything that I’ve mentioned below.”
Okay let's start...
Everyone would’ve come across the brutal murder of father and son in Sathankulam on June 22,2020..
Here, I’d say – this is not the only incident that happened against innocent public by policemen.
I’m keeping some of the other incidents which we came across recently (during lockdown) for your notice –
# 2020- Many Migrant People who were travelling to their home following lockdown were beaten up by Gujarat police
# 23 March 2020 - Journalist Navin Kumar was verbally abused, beaten, had his car keys, wallet, and phone confiscated by the police while he was on his way to work.

# 26 March 2020 - A crowd of people were lathi charged by the police for no apparent reason. Among them, Lal Swami, a man who had gone outside to buy milk was killed on the spot.
# 28 March 2020 - Suresh and Ramprasad Shah, vegetable vendors, were brutally assaulted by police with lathis.
# 5 April 2020 - A 65-year old, Tibu Meda, who went to buy rations for his family along with his son-in-law, were assaulted by police. Both tried to run away, but Meda was fatally wounded.
# 9 April 2020 - Harsh Rathod, a pharmacist, was beaten up by an officer while buying supplies for his shop.
# 10 April 2020 - Bhairon Lal Lohar, his brother, and an ambulance driver were brutally beaten by Gujarat police officers while Lal Lohar, with his brother, was going to attend their mother's funeral, although they had taken permission from the authorities.
# 11 April 2020 - A diabetic man who had gone to buy medicines, was beaten up by 3 officers, although his wife who was with him had already explained the situation.

# 20 April 2020 - A 50-year old farmer, was questioned by 6 officers on the suspicion of running a gambling den. When he denied the allegation, they beat him unconscious with lathis. He later succumbed to his injuries.
# 21 April 2020 - Mohammed Ghouse, a heart patient, was beaten to death by the police for no apparent reason.
# 22 June 2020 - Custodial death of father and son. The duo had been beaten, brutally tortued, and sexually assaulted. #sathankulamissue.
# 27 June 2020 - 19-year old heart patient, Sagar Chalavadi died of a heart attack after being lathi-charged outside an SSLC examination centre
(All these incidents are put up to your notice with reference to the latest newspapers and google)
There are so many incidents like this which happened from the independence of India to the COVID 19 outbreak which clearly shows that some police officers do offensive things with their police power which is considered as a Crime.
I DONT KNOW, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE ??
Alright, let's get to the solution which we can do as public/ citizen/ just a common person.
If we go through all these issues we will get to know that, the root cause of all issues is that - there is no proper government structure which can take action on police officials.
For example – If we(public people) commit a mistake – we have police to take care. But, if a police/govt. official commits a crime – who is there to take care of that?
Here, we have a branch in which we can file a complaint on a police officer if they commit a mistake/crime. As far as we know, this branch is not completely operational because of the reasons that people are not aware about this/ police are themselves being the head of this department where the action is not taken/ nobody is ready to file a proper complaint against a police general who commits a crime.
But, in Pondicherry – this panel is brought to function by the highest official stating that, it should have chief magistrate in the panel to give a correct solution for these type of police brutalities.
From my point of view, I’d say such ideas should be appreciated and we all should ask for the same to the rest states of India.
So far, we have created so many trending #tags which would bring safety and awareness to people. On this list, lets add this important #tag from now on which is #implementPCA #PCA #PoliceComplaintsAuthority .
Lets together take a step towards better Nation atleast after the death of 2 souls.

At the same time Central government, asking public feedback in all their official website if with regards to if there is any griviemnces to that may bring it to their notice concern but its very unfortunate was not taken for account which is disappointing, I have experience checking the website after the carefully taken the mail ID and submitting my feedback that, not delivering – ie, after some time it bounce back to me, stating that address id not found (how it is ?) that clearly shows that what they preach but not in doing (action)
On the other hand when I send my articles editor of the various national news papers they are also hesitate to publish it, in Democratic Country what our constitution says fundamental right, all the citizen of the country having their equal right in term of freedom of Speech, Write, and Expression but it fail to honor respect the common feeing citizen of their country

Therefore, I request to do the needful by clearing the hurdle faced by the genuine candidates, only by then Aathma Nirbhar Possible ……otherwise country has to depend the import goods.
