A round of allegations and counter-allegations between the Center and the Delhi government over expensive onions continues. The Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi on Sunday accused the Central Government of deliberately stopping the supply of onions to increase the onion rates in Delhi. He has asked the Center why when we demanded to supply onion till December 9, why it was stopped in the middle. He made this allegation in a media interaction at his residence on Sunday. Manish Sisodia said that the Central Government had written a letter to us that they have 56 thousand metric tonnes of onions. In September, the Delhi government had written a letter to them asking for onions, then by December 9, they were asked to supply 10 trucks of onions (about 2.50 lakh kg onions daily). But the Center has stopped supplying onions in between. That too without any notice. It is clear that when there is sufficient quantity of onion at the Center, why the supply of onion was stopped even after demand. He said that it is clear from the attitude of the Central Government that the onion crisis has been created in the country deliberately. Which can increase the rate of onion. Sisodia told that last time we got onion on November 24. That too was just a truck onion containing 13 to 14 thousand kg onion. He said that even before that we rarely got 10 truck onions in a day. On an average, we were getting 4 to 5 trucks of onions every day. He said that the Center is talking of giving 60 rupees a kg of onion, on which we are not ready. If we get such an expensive onion then how will we provide it to Delhiites at cheaper rates.
